Quick update.
Recently I started watching TV’s again, and noticed that I’m getting hooked on what BBC America has to offer. Gotta say, after all these years, I do start to miss those good ol’ British Drama. Yeah I still enjoy some American TV series (Heroes and House are two decent shows). But I’ve gotta say, the acting, writing, and directing these BBC shows have a lot more depth than most of the “poppy” American counter-parts nowadays…
Click through to find a few shows I’m currently watching and recommend everyone to check it out if you get a chance:
“Jekyll” (2007)
Classic story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, with a modern twist. The performance from James Nesbitt is superb! The transformation from Jekyll to Hyde is top-notch. We just got our US premiere this past Saturday (8/4), so it’s not too late to catch up yet.
The only worry I have, this show is categorized under “Supernatural Saturday.” I hope this is based on the “multi-personality” nature of the story. I’d be appalled if they turn this into some werewolf/vampire fantasy drama….
“Robin Hood” (2006)
I’ve only caught one episode so far, so not much can be said about the “series” as a whole. But the series itself has some close reminiscence to some TV drama I saw during my brief stay in UK… and let’s face it, who can ever get bored of a good Robin Hood series? It teaches children that’s it’s good to be bad… (?) But seriously, I like this show cuz it’s not just packed with action sequence. It’s got a lot more character development and interaction than you’d normally expect of a Robin Hood story.
“Dr. Who” (2005)
I guess this show is more along the line of what you’d find on Sci-Fi channel. I normally don’t like sci-fi series (never got into Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, or what-you-have-it on Sci-Fi channel), but Dr. Who has this… strange quality that just lures you in.
While some people can’t get enough of the British accent, others may find it hard to understand. Worry not, BBC America’s got you covered. Before almost every show, they usually show a brief disclaimer to help you… “cope” with the cultural differences:
Oh, those British humor!
