I’ve been talking to some people about starting some sort of Food Club, where a few friends will hang out and try a new restaurant that all, or most, of us have never tried before. If they want, they can also invite their friends and bring them along. So it’s kind of a city-exploration-slash-networking type of event.

Sunday, my Roomba dutifully kicked into service at 9:30 am. Cornered itself, by closing the door, in the bathroom at around 9:45, so I had to get out off bed to open the bathroom door and let the little poor thing out. We didin’t officially woke up until noon-ish though… Fortunately, Fred drove us into the city, saving us from another day of walk-a-thon… sort of…

We decided to head out to Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown for lunch. Have been craving for their crab meet soup dumplings for a long time. Their Shredded Turnip Shortcake isn’t too bad either, it’s worth a try if you ever go there, though I still think my cousin-in-law makes the best turnip shortcakes ever! They also have two other locations in New York (one in Uptown and one in Flushing). I haven’t been to either of them, so can’t really vouch for the food quality other than the one in Chinatown.

What’s a meal without some quality desserts? And what better place in Chinatown to get dessert than Hui Lau Shan? The placed used to have a HLS sign right outside the shop, but it has now been replaced with a new sign for teashop “Whatever.” Seems like the shop has also underwent some remodeling - the furnitures are mostly new, and they also expanded their menu to include sandwiches and the like… but they did manage to keep all the original HLS dessert menu in-tact. So if you want HLS, look for Whatever.

Spring time is officially (for now) here in New York! The temperature has been steadily in the 60s and 70s for the past two week. Let’s hope it stays that way over the next few months! Seeing all the effects from Global Warming this past winter, I fear we’ll be in hell (some-what literally!) this summer!

But the current weather is perfect for a stroll down the waterfront walkway, or a tour-de-New York. So on Saturday, after a late brunch with a few high school friends around Lincoln Center, I decided, rather than riding the subway back to midtown, to wander around the city on my way back to Herald Square (34th Street, 6th Ave). Being a directional idiot I am, I began my journey at 66th Street and 9th Ave. Before it hits me, I was at 84th and 10th… Figured it’s time to head back east, I walked back towards 6th Ave and made a turn on the corner of 84th and 8th. Few minutes later I ended up at 90th and 8th…

So I had a bit of detour, however I did manage to spot a few very nice and up-scale condos around the area. Very tempting it was, but I understand those units probably are in or around the millions. Not exactly the price us entry-level-white-collars can afford.
